HAVE EXCHANGE FOR SUMMER 2007
Completely renovated 100 year old home (170m2 = 1 850 sq ft.),on 2
levels, high ceilings, with a nice sunroom and a beautiful garden
with ponds in the back.Walking-distance (30 min) to Belgium and
Netherland, 3 languages (German,French,Dutch) and cultures are
coming together, this region is the very heart of Europe, a lot of
history( Celts, Romans), 16 German kings have been crowned in our
cathedral (1200 years old). Aachen has 250.000 inhabitants, in the
surrounding cities are living additional 250.000 inh.
Hotest springs north of the Alps, famous spa, you can make a
wellness program in our new public spa. High
speed train main station(1km), good for short trips: 1h to Brussels/0,5h
to Cologne/ 1,5h to Frankfurt/ 3h to Paris/ 5h to London, 1h to Bonn
( our ancient capital ) on the river Rhine( south of it starts the
well kown wine region of Rhine, Mosel and Main with a lot of castles).
By car: 2 h to Luxembourg, 2h to Amsterdam, 20 min to Maastricht
(Maastricht treaties, the Euro was born here), sailing facilities
nearby, 0,5h to Liege, an ancient town on the river Maas, 3 lakes (one
with sailing facilities) in less than 50 km distance.
Beautiful countryside called Eifel with it's own National Park south
of Aachen with forests, (crater)lakes, castles; two wonderful
recreation areas in Belgium and Netherland in short distance (10 to
30 km), good for hiking, biking and horseback riding.
In July we have the International Equestrian Tournament that is
renowned worldwide in the Equestrian Stadium. Every year we have the
Aachen culture summer: Open-air concerts with the historical
background of our city. International stars from Rock, Pop, Jazz and
classical music will perform in July.
In August we have the 'Summer bend'. This large popular fair on the
Aachen Bendplatz offers many attractions and stalls to the people of
Aachen and visitors. Also in August we have a cycle race and a flee
market both around the Cathedral and the Town Hall. On the wine
grower's festival you can taste the different wines from the Mosel
and Rhine valley. And we will have the long night of the museums
(Museums of Aachen will be open the whole night).One of the biggest
technical universities of Europe, 40.000 students means a lot of
pubs, restaurants, music events etc., a lot of high tech companies.
Good shopping and good restaurants in Aachen and the surrounding
cities, more than 10 amusements parks in short distance (1-2h
drive).It's a really good location to explore Central Europe.
